Here's how to find your accommodation after you disembark from the ferry:

Directions to Cliff Haven on the Bay

Cliff Haven on the Bay is a grey cottage tucked behind the Peterson Apartments, offering beautiful ocean views of the Bay.

By Car:

1. Exiting the Ferry: As you leave the ferry terminal, you will be on Fir Street, the main waterfront road.
2. Turn Right: Turn RIGHT onto Fir Street.
3. Continue on Fir Street: Proceed along Fir Street, passing through the main part of the village.
4. Turn Left onto Maple Road: Look for Maple Road on your left and make a LEFT turn.
5. Stay on Maple Road: Continue on Maple Road. You will need to veer slightly to the right to stay on Maple Road as it goes uphill. Follow Maple Road until you reach Cedar Street.
6. Turn Left onto Cedar Street: When you reach the intersection with Cedar Street, make a LEFT turn.
7. Parking: Look for the Peterson Apartments, which is a tall, white building on the left side of Cedar Street (126 Cedar Street). You can park in the designated spots on either the upper or lower side of the Peterson Apartments building.
8. Find Cliff Haven: Cliff Haven on the Bay is the grey cottage. It is tucked behind the Peterson Apartments and can be reached by following the path at the end of the parking area.

On Foot:

Please note that this will involve walking elevations (37M) for a sustained period of time, which will test the stamina of casual walkers, but will be good exercise for the seasoned hiker. Now if you don't have the option of a car and you are not in a rush it is worth the hike! Stop along the way to rest and enjoy the beautiful ocean views. During the summer there is an abundance of fresh berries along this route. Once you get here you can rest and recover on your private deck overlooking the Bay, with eagles soaring above your head with a lucky few seeing whales swim by! Driver's beware, for anyone with a car this route includes a no-through road with no parking so if you are driving please follow the directions by car found above (you will not be able to get to your suite this way).

Walking Directions:

1. Walking off the ferry TURN RIGHT onto FIR ST and walk along the scenic boardwalk for 450 M. Please note you will walk past some food options and a pharmacy. Shop Rite General Store is our island’s grocer so you may want to stock up for breakfast. 
2. TURN LEFT onto MAPLE RD and walk for 100M where you will see a post office and BC liquor store on the left, and a Vancity credit union on the far right.
3. You will notice a split in the road, TURN LEFT onto HEMLOCK ST and walk up the left side of the road for 67M until you see WALNUT RD 
4. Now TURN RIGHT and walk up WALNUT RD until you reach the end of the paved road, you see the white apartment building (Peterson Apartments) ahead and to your direct left a grey Cottage (Cliff Haven). Here you have two options: walk up what we affectionately call the ‘goat path’ up to Cliff Haven, or you can take the less arduous route toward the white apartment building, then turn left up the stone steps until you reach the path to Cliff Haven. Welcome!

General Tips for Getting Around Alert Bay:

• Walking: Much of Alert Bay is easily explored on foot, especially the areas along Fir Street. As you can see you are close to everything! Need groceries, a restaurant, bank, or liquor store? It is all within a leisurely 10-15 minute walk away from your front door. Being this central to everything and having the Expansive ocean-view is what makes Cliff Haven so great!
• Signage: Keep an eye out for local signage, which can also help guide you.
• Ask a Local: Alert Bay is a friendly community! If you're unsure, don't hesitate to ask someone for directions – people are usually happy to help. There is also a Visitor Centre in town. And of course we are always happy to answer any questions you might have while you are with us.
